Quail.....

I've never considered myself a morning person.  After all, my mom enrolled me in afternoon kindergarten, because it wasn't easy getting me up in the morning.  This spring, however, my menopausal body has decided it will no longer sleep past 5 am - 6 am every morning.  Wow.  That's not easy, when one is more of a night owl.

Well, since I no longer have the luxury of sleeping a little later in the morning, I'm up with the birds. :o)  One thing I do enjoy about mornings lately is having my coffee on the back patio with my dog, Gilligan.  (He came with that name - different story.)  No, Gilly doesn't actually drink coffee, but he loves it when I go out on the back patio to drink mine.  I watch him run around happily playing and greeting the morning, while I sit on the porch swing with my coffee.  We both love the bird song as they lift their praises to our Creator, while the sun stretches up into the morning sky.  Then, our little roosters crow.

Yes, in our neighborhood, we have little quail roosters.  They are totally adorable and not loud and obnoxious-sounding like chicken roosters.  They greet each morning with their sweet, little "crows" and tell their families, "It's time to get up!"  I am so very fond of our neighborhood quail.  I've enjoyed them for the 28 years we've lived here.  Quail have always fascinated me a bit, because they can fly, but they usually choose not to.  When leaving home and driving somewhere, a flock will, occasionally, be running across the street before me.  As I approach in my vehicle, they run faster and faster stretching out their little necks ahead of them like that will help them run faster.  I'm laughing right now thinking about it!  Sometimes, I'll actually say out loud, "Fly!  Fly!  You have wings!  Just fly!"  No, they run quickly across the road.  Once in a while, one of the flock will actually open its wings and fly the few remaining feet to the sidewalk, but, mostly, they just run.

The quail got me to thinking:  How many times in life are we just like the quail?  We "have wings".  We can "fly," but we choose not to.  Instead, we just run like crazy through a situation or a trial.  Hmmm.....

Change?

I've been thinking a lot lately, and praying, about whether or not not God wants me to stay in the same ministry I've been in for several years now, or if He wants me to do something else.  It could be that it's time for a change, and that's not bad.  Usually, I am a creature of habit and do not like a lot of changes.  That got me to thinking, for some reason, about marriage.

You see, I think I'm learning that I have to keep praying about what ministry God wants me to be in this upcoming school year.  Maybe, He is wanting me to do something different.  So, I need to constantly take the time to "update" my info from Him.  Do I stay here - do I go there and help.  Do I continue to be an AWANA Leader and help in Sunday School, or should I do something totally different now?  Maybe I should volunteer at the coffee bar in our church on Sunday mornings or help with the ministry that feeds the homeless in the park on Sunday afternoons.

Oh yes, where was I?  I found a correlation between staying "updated" about where God wants me to minister and marriage.  It led me to thinking about how I've watched and listened to friends who have been married for about 35 - 50 years.  One couple particularly comes to mind; they have been married over 50 years and are in their 80's.  Wow!  Huh?  It's not automatically easy for them, because they've been married so long.  They still have to work at it:  They have to continue forgiving each other, continue listening to each other, and continue showing each other some grace.  They still get angry with each other, but they forgive or work it out.  They don't give up.  They still need God's Help with their marriage after half a century!  They still have to work at their marriage after half a century!  That's why they've been married so long!  They are such an inspiration to me, because they still have to work at their marriage after 50 years!  I reiterate:  Wow!  I've got so tickled listening to them before, because they still have "moxie"!  They're still individuals, with their owns minds; they just work together on their marriage.  Cool - huh?

Awesome Sermon!

Wow!

Wow!  Lately, God has really been using short messages on the radio, church sermons - just using different sources from totally unrelated people to get messages across to me - in simplicity that I understand.  I've totally not been expecting it, but they come after I've been praying about certain things.  Awesome!  Thanks God!
